Pysanky

We’re going beyond Paas Easter Eggs here and going Pysanky a la the Ukranian method. You still dye the eggs, but “write” the designs in with melted hot wax (a wax-resist/batik method) from a stylus and multiple layers of color, starting with your lighter layers of color and ending with darker colors depending on your design. After several layers of waxing and coloring, waxing-dyeing, waxing-dyeing (you get the idea), you finally finish by heating all the wax that’s now on the egg and rubbing it off to reveal your multi-colored and patterned design. Every layer of wax and color adds to your design. You pretty much have to see it to get the idea so go ahead take a peak and yes, you can be amazed.
