Marbling

What is this? Stonework? No, I use the “Turkish Method” or ebru from back in the 1100’s to create my marbling papers and fabric designs. Starting with a tray of sizing liquid (essentially thickened water) I carefully float my various paint colors on the dense water and then gently move the colors over the water with different sized rakes, combs and other fine-toothed implements to create intricately swirled and movement filled designs. Ease paper and/or silks and such onto above design and you’ll see it transferred from the dense water to the paper or fabric. These used to be big in the book business on the inside of covers so you wouldn’t see the messy transition from where the cover was folded over into the book. They’re great for calligraphy, beautiful stationery, origami or just some framed pretty paper.
